Sweet Pea

Sweet Pea ‘Painted Lady’

None of these seeds germinated. I assume it is too cool for them
June 1st

Planted another 3 seeds in newspaper pots. I’ve planted these outside to see if they’ll germinate in place, as that would be easier than starting them in the attic.

The only seed that survived was the one that was the fourth seedling that was planted in a small plastic pot. I have created a teepee type structure using some bamboo we have growing to see if it will grow up this. Once it is a little more mature I will decide where to plant it out in the garden.
June 1st

The sweet pea on one of the posts has shrivelled up and died. The one in the herb garden unfortunately snapped, and I don’t think it will continue to grow. One is still growing on one of the light posts, although it doesn’t look particularly happy. It’s still below the line of the shrub planted there, so it may be trying to reach the light. I’ll monitor it to see if things improve once it gets above the shrub — although that particular spot doesn’t receive any direct sunlight during the day.

All 4 seeds have germinated and I’ve now planted them out. Two are near the posts that hold the lights up — I wanted to see if they’ll tangle themselves around those. One is in the herb garden to see if it will grow on the frame. The fourth seedling is in a small pot; I’ll decide what to do with it later.

Sowed 4 seeds in newspaper cups. Keeping them in the attic, not on a heat mat.
